Welcome to the latest edition of “Where Bloggers Live”. It’s kind of like HGTV’s “Celebrities at Home,” but…Bloggers! Who doesn’t like to peek behind the scenes and see inside people’s homes and lives. Here is the “Where Bloggers Live” group – a group of ladies who live very diverse lives. Be sure and check out their blogs – Links to their blogs at the end.
This month is a subject that’s a little tricky (to me anyway) – I’m sure I’ve gotten LOTS of advice over the year (and probably ignored most of it) – but what was the best???
After giving it much thought – I “think” the best (or at least the most memorable) was, “Be Yourself” – and “Always do your best”. Both of those need to apply in our home life, work life and social life.
I can’t ever remember wanting to be someone else – but there were times when I had to figure out just who I was.

This is great advice and, not gonna lie, there are times when I feel like I’m still trying to figure out who I am. I’ve not tried to be anyone else, but different life stages require different iterations of ourselves.
Oh yeah, I hear you. We sure go through different life stages. In “old age” sometimes I wonder who I really am.

I think that’s the part of youth that I don’t miss all that much. Trying to figure out who we are. Yet it’s a constant change, I found.

Well, I dediced long ago to “just be me”. It was good advice. Have I changed over the years – well yes – but not drastically – except getting older and slower.
Iris
Ahh, “be yourself,” that’s a good one. It’s just a waste of time and energy to get people to think we’re someone else…and they’re gonna think what they’re gonna think about us anyway…so Just Do You 🙂
xoxo
You’re right. I always try to be “me”.

Glad you and the hubs were able to enjoy a cruise and a trip to Hawaii together. We have just booked our first cruise. I always dreamed of a Carribean cruise but now that I am 66 and no longer comfortable (was I ever?) in a bathing suit in public, I am glad we are going to Alaska. Won’t go until next spring so who knows, maybe I can work on my bathing suit figure between now and then. Did you go to Pearl Harbor while in Hawaii? I know it is a beautiful state and I would like to… Read more »
Oh, I’m glad you’re going on a cruise to Alaska – that’s the one place that I really wanted to go but didn’t when I worked for the travel company. Had an a great opportunity at a really reduced price one time, but just couldn’t justify the expense. Have always been sorry I didn’t. Hope you havea great time – want to see lots of Pictures.
Yes, we absolutely went to Pearl Harbour. It was THE most touching place I’ve ever been. The memorial is definitely a trip you should take if you’re ever there.
Iris
Still not too late to plan another trip.
Well, for me it’s about too late. I’m getting up there in years and just don’t have the energy for travel anymore. Thanks for stopping by and saying hi.
Iris
Curious about your travel job, Iris… Did you plan corporate travel or vacation travel or both?
I had a coworker who always thought being a travel and event planner would be a glamorous job and always talked about making site visits and all the comp goodies that would go along with it. Haha, based on your experiences, it sounds like another misfire of someone on the outside looking in.
I would definitely like to go back to Hawaii someday…but then there are SO many other places to see (and that I likely never will)… c’est la vie!
I did both. The travel company was a VERY large company that mostly did motivational group travel, but I was there long enough to work in different departments, so most any kind of travl came my way. It did have perks – but it also had it’s down sides.

So glad you have special memories of your trips with your husband, Iris. Good memories can see us through a lot of other times.
Bettye xoxo
Oh yeah – don’t know what I’d do without all those sweet memories.
Iris
Working for a travel company definitely puts a different spin on things. And I agree that work travel is nothing like a vacation – it’s so exhausting but not in a fun way! I always wanted to visit Hawaii when I was a kid; I’m 99% sure it was from seeing the Brady Bunch go to Hawaii, haha.
Well, Hawaii was a gorgeous place to visit – but you’re right, working for a travel company took me to lot of places I would never have gone to – but it was definitely no vacation.
Iris
It’s amazing how many photos we take now compared to back in the day. The best part is the memories!
Xoox
Jodie
Yup – lots of “back in the day” in my life for sure.
Iris
You’re right Jodie – such wonderful memories with our photos now.
