It didn’t take much convincing after my Sept/Oct falls and hospital stay. If you can’t reach the phone, OR don’t remember anything happening, it’s a bit difficult to get in touch with anyone.
So, after all that happened and my family was freaked out (and so was I) I did a ton of research on all the medial alert devices and believe me, there are a lot of them. I’m sure most of them do a good job, but I choose the one that sounded the best to me and had excellent reviews (yes, I do pay attention to reviews).
SO, I now wear a “Medical Guardian” MG Mini. It works wherever I am (at home, out shopping, wherever). It’s waterproof and has fall alert. If it detects a fall it will automatically send an emergency response team. I can also just press a button if I need assistance of any kind. I wear it around my neck – it also has a clip that I can wear on a belt.
There’s a smaller device that I wear to bed at night and in the shower. The system did take some getting used to and so far I haven’t had to use it – but it definitely gives “me” peace of mind and my family also. I’d so much rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. There are also 4 people on my list with them that can be contacted if I have an emergency. Those people know the phone numbers that they would hear from.
SO, while I’m finally able to stay at home by myself, this gives me some major peace of mind (and I’m sure my family too).
