Cooking – the bane of my existence

People who love to cook always amaze me.

I am good at many things in life – cooking is not one of them.  I had a husband whose biggest vice in life was eating.  He loved food – loved grocery shopping (YUK also) and eating.  I raised sons who could eat the paint off the walls as teenagers.  I cooked a LOT of food.  I always HATED IT!!!

My hubby (Chuck) never complained, and always said “if your Mother can cook it, you can eat it”.  Poor kids!  Yeah, they survived pretty well and grew up to dislike very few things.

He even bought me a VERY expensive cookware set back in  the 1970’s because he thought if I had great cookware I’d like to cook.  Obviously that didn’t work.

Interestingly, I don’t mind cleaning up the kitchen – if someone else just does the cooking.  Of course, now that I’m on my own – I get to do both (or not).  I’m waiting for them to come out with a pill one can just take in lieu of food.  Seems like it would save a great deal of time.

I do have one son who LOVES to cook and two others who are great on the grill.  My daughter is a good cook.  None of them got that gene from me.  Have DIL’s who are good cooks – one a gourmet cook.

Both my parents were good cooks, my Dad as much so as my mother – and of course Grandmothers who didn’t have any choice but were both very good.  Wish I’d have asked them if they liked it.

Up until right after the tornadoes of 2011 I had an easy to clean, smooth, ceramic electric cook top – which I loved and the rest of my family hated.

So, when it finally died I replaced it with gas and I now have a very annoying to clean gas cook top. They all love cooking on gas.

But what’s the real reason for the gas cook top you ask?  Well, I’ll tell you.  If we have another tornado and lose power for days, I can boil water on the gas cook top and make coffee in my french press 🙂

Grace & Peace,
Iris
